Unmixed batch reactor
Unmixed batch reactors are sometimes used where mixing is either not essential or undesirable: for example an unmixed reactor is used in the UK’s Residual Biogas Production (RBP) test. These pots could also be used as small-scale temperature-controlled growth chambers where a predefined atmosphere is needed.
The reactors are identical to our 1L mixed reactors except for the motor and stirring mechanism, and can be used with the 8-place polyethylene water bath without power rail. They therefore also benefit from the wide mouth, double ‘o’ ring sealing system and high quality injection moulded parts and CNC precision engineering.
The reactors can be retrofitted at a later time with mixers if the lab’s requirements change, and the water bath can also be retrofitted with a power bridge.
Magnetically coupled mixed reactor
For higher pressures and higher speed mixing.
We have modified our offset blade mixer with the draft tube acting as longitudinal support for the shaft. The bottom bar of the stirrer includes a magnetic flea holder on its underside allowing the mixer to be driven by a magnetic stirrer. As there is no need for a liquid air lock this reactor can operate at higher pressure and is useful where mass transfer of gas is a limiting factor. This reactor modification cannot currently be used with the CJC Labs water bath and is most suited to operation in a constant temperature room.
Turbine and high speed mixing
Choice of impellor and motor speed.
The usual rotational speed of the offset bar stirrer is between 10-30 rpm making it ideal for viscous mixtures.
The mechanically mixed 1 L reactor can alternatively be fitted with a high-speed impellor mixer coupled to a higher-speed geared induction motor to meet a client’s specification.
